ourselves and as it is
Ourselves and as it is* is an art and graphic design project by Keiko Sato and Montse Hernàndez i sala.
The collaboration began through our Japanese and Catalonian identities. During the process it emerged that nature was common concern. Keiko comes from Fukushima, where the nuclear disaster in 2011 caused invisible damage to both people and the environment. Montse comes from Spain, where the effects of climate change are already visible in ever increasing periods of drought. Together they develop work that focuses on the fragility of nature when affected by human activity.
*Ourselves and as it is is the translation of the two Japanese characters that form the word ‘Shizen’. The first one means ‘ourselves’. The second one means ‘as it is’. Together they mean ‘Nature’.
